Spacetime Globe

hyperbolic slots guide Teflon pegs to demonstrate approximate Lorentz transformations

Spring 2025, Amherst College

Machined / Aluminum, Teflon

When I took Modern Physics at Amherst College my sophomore year, I watched a YouTube video by Minute Physics to help me understand Lorentz transformations. They had made a Spacetime Globe to visually show how the velocity of different objects would change when observed in different frames of reference. I wanted to try to make my own Spacetime Globe.

I designed each part in SolidWorks and manually machined each piece with the exception of the base which was milled on a CNC Haas.
